Florida Hospital Tampa Digestive Health Institute Speaks About Reflux

On August 20th, 2017, Dr. Sharona Ross and Doctor Arthi Sanjeevi of the Florida Hospital Tampa Digestive Health Institute had the opportunity to host a dissertation and seminar about reflux. The speaking event was attended by members of our local communities as well as inquiring medical professionals. It was a great honor to be able to host this seminar and we are more than pleased to be able to say it was a fantastic success. Thank you to everyone who came out to say hello and attend.

During the reflux seminar, our team started by discussing the typical signs and symptoms of reflux and reflux-related health conditions. In many cases, patients will first start to experience intense and frequent heartburn, regurgitating stomach acid after a meal, occasional waves of nausea, and general bloating. This list of symptoms can be mistaken as just a side effect of eating a poor or unhealthy meal, which can lead to an unfortunate delay in diagnosis and treatment.

We also covered what can cause acid reflux disease. Many of the known causes for reflux can be linked to seemingly small oversights, such as eating just before going to sleep or lying down. However, there are some causes that may be more serious or more difficult to remedy, like a smoking addiction or pregnancy. Knowing what is causing your acid reflux is often the first step in addressing it.

Doctors Ross and Sanjeevi also wanted to stress the importance of understanding both the long term risks of untreated reflux and how the overuse of acid reflux medication – either prescribed or purchased over-the-counter – can cause other health problems. To close out the reflux seminar, appropriate testing and treatment options were covered. The Florida Hospital Tampa Digestive Health Institute actually specializes in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and other methods that can help treat acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and much more.

Once again, we send heartfelt thanks to everyone who came and attended our reflux seminar. We truly hope you learned some important and useful bits of information about reflux, especially when it comes to treatment and prevention. If you have additional questions or would like to learn about the reflux procedures Florida Hospital Tampa offers, feel free to contact us at any time by calling 813-964-7913 and setting up an appointment.
